About Us
TrimeridianTrimeridian is a national organization dedicated exclusively to providing specialized treatment solutions for those affected by problem gambling. We believe the highest quality and most effective care involves patients and their families as active participants working with expertly trained multi-disciplinary treatment teams to meet specific therapeutic outcome goals.

Pathological gambling is a progressive, potentially chronic disorder that creates an overwhelming, uncontrollable impulse to gamble. It is a diagnosable and treatable condition.

Trimeridian is the nation's resource for addressing the needs of state-of-the-art education, research and treatment for problem and pathological gambling. Serving individuals, communities, state councils on problem gambling, as well as industry clients, we are recognized and accredited as leaders in this exclusive growing area of health care, social welfare, and economics.

The Intensive Outpatient Program addresses complex diagnostic issues, serious relapse factors, and medical or psychiatric instability. The clinical staff recognizes each client's unique needs, and designs individualized, comprehensive treatment and recovery plans based on those needs.

The late Robert Custer, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist, was Chief of Treatment Services of the Mental Health and Behavioral Science Service of the U. S. Veterans Administration. In 1972, he founded the first treatment center for compulsive gamblers in Brecksville, Ohio. Through his efforts, pathological gambling was officially recognized by the American Psychiatric Association as a treatable illness. Dr. Custer was also the medical advisor to the National Council on Compulsive Gambling, Inc. Dr. Custer's legacy is reflected in the holistic research that is ongoing at Trimeridian. Director, Loreen Rugle PhD, continues evidence-based research utilizing the largest data-base in the nation. Developing evidence-based practice remains one of Trimeridian's primary objectives.

Individuals caught up in the vicious cycle of gambling and chasing losses can and do reclaim their lives. We know that treatment is effective. May we share some statistical information with you?

We serve as the nation's leader in providing individuals afflicted with pathological gambling and organizations dedicated to serve them the hope, direction, knowledge, and tools to reach and retain recovery.
